Waltz king ; (* March 25, 1979 , † 2000 ) was a well-known German show jumping horse .

The large chestnut gelding, which was visually distinguished by a striking, wide blaze , had enormous jumping ability. His gallop jumps seemed leisurely, but their spatial reach meant that Walzerkönig and his rider Franke Sloothaak were able to win many victories in jump-offs.

ancestors

Walzerkönig comes from Watzmann a. d. Ancestral crown of paragraph. His father, a Celler state stallion was in 1970 Verden licensed and in 1971 in his stallion performance test in fifth place. He left 19 licensed sons and 24 state premium mares and was the father of numerous good show jumpers, above all Waltz King. Watzmann offspring were not always easy to ride and uncomplicated. It is best passed on to mares who have had a lot of blood; a special mating has turned out to be with daughters of the thoroughbred Perser xx.

His dam's sire, the chestnut stallion Sales vom Trakehner Abglanz, has made history in the Hanoverian breeding area in 18 years: 40 licensed sons, over 400 main mares, 605 FN registered competition horses and 142 Verden auction horses. He was the stamp stallion of the Hanoverian breed of the post-war period. Stallions like Argentan I, Arsenik, Akzent I and II, Admiral I and II, Aktuell and Aderlaß started a real 'sales boom', one of whose offspring was the popular sire Argentinus (son of Argentan I).

Life

Waltz King looked awkward and lanky at first, and he was also seen as too colorful. Only later, on the tournament grounds, could he prove his assets and become one of the most successful show jumpers of his time. Under the saddle of Franke Sloothaak and Rene Tebbel , he won almost all Grand Prix competitions in Europe: German Champion 1989 Berlin and 1991 Münster, Grand Prix of Aachen 1990, London 1991, 2 × winner Zurich Classics 1988 a. 1991 etc. His winnings amounted to 1.3 million DM .

His greatest success, however, was winning the gold medal with the German team under Franke Sloothaak at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 .

He earned the nickname Hermann in Sloothaak's stable and was only called that way. He received his bread of grace at Schockemöhle's farm in Mühlen, where he shared the pasture with the jumping legend Deister, among others .
