Wangen is a district of the city of Nebra (Unstrut) in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The village is located on both banks of the Unstrut on the connecting road from Nebra to Memleben in the middle of a nature reserve .

history

Wangen was created through the merger of the previously independent municipalities Groß- and Kleinwangen on July 20, 1950.

In a resulting 881 to 899 directory of the tithe of the monastery Hersfeld [retail] cheek is as tenth-requiring location in Fries field first mentioned in documents.

Memorials

On the road to Nebra, a memorial stone commemorates an unknown concentration camp prisoner from the death march of the Dora-Mittelbau concentration camp , who was murdered here by SS men .

In the immediate vicinity of the village, the Nebra Sky Disc was found on the Mittelberg . On June 20, 2007, the Arche Nebra multimedia visitor center was opened near the place where the sky disc was found near Nebra .

Since April 10, 2009, passenger trains have been terminating on the Unstrutbahn to make it easier to reach the Arche Nebra in Wangen, which ran from Naumburg (Saale) to Artern until 2006 . The stop is served by trains from Abellio Rail Central Germany , which run every hour to Naumburg.

In addition, the Unstrut is one of the most touristically developed rivers in Germany. Wangen is located on the river kilometer 36.0. The Unstrut Cycle Path - 5th stage - runs right by the river on the left . "You cycle close to the river through the Wangener Grund, a scenic valley on the edge of the Ziegelrodaer Forest. The increasingly steep and narrowing slopes only leave a narrow gap for the Unstrut to flow through. The opening is framed by Buntsandteinfelsen."
