The Wannig (with its right upper course Gücklertgraben ) is a 9 km long, right and eastern tributary of the Lauer in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen .

Surname

The water body called Wannig by the BayernAtlas before Großwenkheim - the same name is used by the Bavarian Environmental Atlas - seems to have been called Wannigsgraben at least earlier on the upper reaches, perhaps even up to the inflow of the Seegraben on the outskirts of Großwenkheim . After this inflow, the run will soon be labeled with Wannig on the old map that can be set on the BayernAtlas . At the lower reaches far below the Wannigsmühle you can find the label Wannigsbach on this map . To what extent the names Wannigsgraben and Wannigsbach were free variants and whether they are still in use locally, must remain open here.

geography

course

The Wannig flows east of the Pfaardorf Großwenkheim in the city of Münnerstadt at about 287  m above sea level. NHN from the quite short right Gücklertgraben and a much longer upper reaches of the grave from the south-southeast together. Continuing the Gücklertgraben course to the west, the Wannig reaches the edge of Großwenkheim, where it is reinforced by the Seegraben flowing in from the north . From here and almost to the end it now flows with small changes in direction to the southwest and initially crosses the parish village of Großwenkheim, which is largely on the left, where it also crosses under the KH 11 district road.

Below the village, the Kleine Wannig flows out on the left , enlarging the previous catchment area by half. The stream is now noticeably deepened here. A little later, flowing now in a deeply buried shell on the edge of the valley, Kleinwenkheim the Dippach from the north to the basin-largest inflow of all. The stream flows in a rather narrow floodplain, the valley lies in small meanders, on its steep slopes and often over their shoulders to the plateau is now forest. State road St 2282 now accompanies the stream until the next inflow.

The valley of this next tributary Edelbach , called the Rüttenberggraben at the lower course that bends to the southeast , also runs south to the main valley, the length of its entire line even exceeds that of the Dippach at 6.1 km. Two arches down the stream, the floodplain widens sharply to the left for the last kilometer, the Wannig turns here hard at the foot of the 303  m above sea level. NHN along the high right valley spur, on which the Krummholz stands, to the end of the northern course. At the Haardmühle of Markt Maßbach it flows from the right and to about 242  m above sea level. NHN in the here northward flowing Lauer .
