Coat of arms of the Hochstift Augsburg
The coat of arms of the Hochstift Augsburg was the emblem of the Hochstift Augsburg , the secular domain of the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg. Today it is part of the coat of arms of the diocese of Augsburg .
Blazon
Split by red and silver.
history
Like the old standards of the Duchy of Swabia , the bishops of Augsburg wore the colors red and white. The oldest evidence of the coat of arms can be found in the Codex Balduineum of Archbishop Balduin von Trier (1308–1354) and in the Zurich coat of arms (1340). The colors of the Augsburg bishop are handed down there as a flag split by red and white.
The oldest representation of the seal dates from 1345 from the time of Bishop Heinrich III. from Schönegg . In the usual pointed oval throne seal with the seated bishop, the split shield is located below the throne in a triangular shield.
