history

In 1486, at the request of Eichstatt Bishop Wilhelm von Reichenau , Emperor Friedrich II granted market rights and at the same time awarded the coat of arms. The letter of arms is issued on February 24, 1486, but only becomes legally valid with an imperial counter-seal on November 29, 1486. The bishop's staff on the coat of arms indicates the Eichstätt bishopric ; from 1819 it was absent and was only reintroduced later. For a long time there was uncertainty about the colors; the colors of the head of the shield and of the bishop's staff changed from red, gold and silver. The crossing was alternately silver and black or silver and red, in the 19th century in the colors of Bavaria silver and blue. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Pleinfeld market survey in 1984, the copy of the coat of arms from 1486 was discovered, which probably dates from the time of the award. The colors silver, black and red clearly emerge from it. Since then, the market town has had its coat of arms in the historically correct colors.
