history
In an imprint of a seal from 1241, the oldest coat of arms of the then imperial city Weißenburg is handed down, which shows half an imperial eagle on the right column and a castle with half a tower at the gap and a piece of wall on the left. Friedrich III. awarded Weißenburg the coat of arms in its present form in 1481. In the original coat of arms the blazon reads “a red shield, inside a white statute with two thurne, standing between the same thurne in a yellow or gold-colored shield a black eagle with two heads…”. The capital letter W was used in place of the eagle from 1808 to 1835 . Until 1967 there was an angel holding a shield in the seals of the city .
