In 1360, Holzingen is mentioned as a branch of Emetzheim under the rule of Eichstatt. From 1404 the village and church of the Wülzburg were annexed, according to the will and the order of the von Holzingen family. In 1502 the male line of the old Frankish family died out. In 1732 there were 21 Ansbach, 7 Weissenburg and one cardboard local subjects in Holzingen. Before that, the German Order was particularly wealthy. In 1791 Holzingen became Prussian, in 1806 Bavarian. On July 1, 1972, the former municipality was incorporated into the city of Weißenburg as part of the municipal reform in Bavaria .
