Location of narrow meadows in Bavaria

Schmalwiesen is a district of the city of Weißenburg in Bavaria in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen with about 100 inhabitants.

The village is located between Weißenburg, Ellingen and Weimersheim , around two kilometers away. Other larger towns in the area are Pleinfeld , Markt Berolzheim and Gunzenhausen . To the north are the forest corridors Schmalwiesenholz and Schweidlohe, which together with other forests form the Ellinger Forest . The Himmelreichgraben rises on the northern edge of the village .

The name Schmalwiesen refers to a settlement near the small or narrow meadows. The first documentary mention was in 1267. The Teutonic Order then owned two courtyards, some of them also belonged to the Wülzburg monastery and the imperial city of Weißenburg as well as the Pappenheim Augustinian monastery and the local marshals . For a long time the village only had ten farms. In 1886, Schmalwiesen had twelve community citizens. Before the municipal reform , Schmalwiesen belonged to the municipality of Weimersheim together with Hattenhof . On July 1, 1972, the three places were incorporated into Weißenburg.

On the last weekend in July, the three-day local district festival Schmalwiesen has been taking place since 1977.
