history

The place name goes back to the former field name "Gäns-Espan", ie a goose pasture where Johann Georg Loy set up an inn in 1768. In 1846 a house, a family and three  souls are recorded there. In 1871 there were six people living with five cattle in two buildings. Today the place includes about 40 households. Gänswirthshaus belonged to the municipality of Oberhochstatt before the Bavarian regional reform of May 1, 1978 .

There are no authorities, post offices, cultural institutions or shops. The nearest doctors and shops are in Weißenburg. Ecclesiastically, the place belongs to the Evangelical Weißenburg city church St. Andreas in the Evangelical Lutheran deanery Weißenburg and to the Catholic parish St. Willibald in Weißenburg in the deanery Weißenburg-Wemding in the diocese of Eichstätt .
