The Wülzburger Berg is 620 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Franconian Alb low mountain range , after the Laubbichel , the Steinberg and the On the plain the fourth highest elevation of the Weißenburger Alb and the fourth highest in the east of the Bavarian district Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The Wülzburger Berg is located in the northwest part of the Altmühltal Nature Park in the Weißenburger Alb , a western part of the southern Franconian Alb . It rises above the valleys of Schwäbischer Rezat in the west, which flows below the mountain through Weißenburg, and the Felchbach tributary Bösbach ( Rohrbach , Kingenbach ) in the north.
To the northeast of the mountain, which is partly wooded on its flanks, lies the village of Kehl , to the south of Schleifer am Berg , to the west of the Glaserhaus , houses on Wülzburger Berg and Birkhof, and to the northeast of the town of Kehl ; they all belong to Weißenburg.
The neighboring mountain to the east-northeast is the Laubbichel ( 635.7 m ) with the Weißenburg − Wülzburg airfield .
Natural allocation
The Wülzburger Berg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Franconian Alb (No. 08), in the main unit Southern Franconian Alb ( 082) and in the sub-unit Altmühlalb (082.2) to the natural area Weißenburger Alb (082.26). Its landscape falls to the north and northwest in the main unit group Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land (11), in the main unit foreland of the southern Franconian Jura (110) and in the subunit Weißenburger Bucht (110.3) in the natural area foreland of the Weißenburger Alb (110.32) .
Wülzburg
On the Wülzburger mountain fortress stands Wülzburg . It was originally a Benedictine monastery, which was converted into a fortress in 1588 . Today the castle and the residential buildings to the south of the fortress are part of Weißenburg. The platform of the northeast bastion ( called Roßmühle ) is located at 643.8 m above sea level. Protected areas
With the exception of the Wülzburg region, the Wülzburger Berg is mostly in the nature reserve protection zone in the Altmühltal Nature Park ( CDDA no. 396115; 1965; 1632.96 km² ). On the mountain in the area of the Wülzburg there is part of the fauna-flora-habitat area bat winter quarters in the southern Franconian Jura (FFH No. 6932-371; 7 ha ).
Traffic and walking
South of Wülzburger mountain branches off from the Weissenburg to quarter Rothstein leading national road 13 , the east to Oberhochstatt running state road from 2228 from the one to the northwest abbiegend on a by Kehl leading path can reach the mountain with the Wülzburg. You pass the Weißenburg-Wülzburg airfield , which is located on the heights of Laubbichel . The Main-Donau-Weg leads around the mountain and the Frankenweg passes the mountain .
