War of the Vikings is a multiplayer - Action Game of the Swedish game developer Fatshark . The game deals with the Viking Age in the war between the two peoples of Saxony and Vikings . The focus is on the combat system.
The game's servers were shut down due to insufficient numbers of players, so the game is no longer playable. A Lan mode was not implemented because there are no more developers working on the game.
Gameplay
War of the Vikings is played from the third person perspective with up to 64 players per game or server . The game's mechanics are strongly based on its predecessor War of the Roses as well as the Mount & Blade game developed by TaleWorlds .
There are three pre-made classes. Before each fight, you choose between the three classes, the heavy huscarl with thick armor and two-handed sword , all-round swordsman with medium armor, shield and one-handed sword, and the archer with light armor and ranged weapon . When you have selected a class, you can optionally join a group .
The player can create his own classes by equipping his character individually.
Combat system
It is controlled via keyboard and mouse, trying to inflict as much damage as possible on your opponent, up to and including kill. Either with the keyboard or mouse ( using the keys (WASD) or moving the mouse in the respective direction) you can determine the direction in which the character should hit or block. With the ranged fighter one tries to hit the opponent by aiming as precisely as possible.
Receptions
In contrast to its predecessor, the game received mostly poorer ratings, for example because of its hectic gameplay. Reviews in computer magazines :
- GameStar : 75/100
- 4Players : 59%
- Metacritic : Metascore of 62, Userscore of 6.1
