Wardböhmen is a village in the city ​​of Bergen in the northern district of Celle in the Lüneburg Heath . It is located 6 km north of Bergen on federal highway 3 .

history

Wardböhmen was first mentioned in 1197 under the name Werthebohmen in Parrochia Berge . The name is derived from Alpers and Barenscheer as follows: warde = waiting + böme = trees.

In the Bomann Museum in Celle and in the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover there are excavation finds from barrows on the Hengstberg and Schaftstallberg, southwest of Wardböhmen. Traditional costume components: V-bonnet jewelry, neck collar, jewelry disk, needle, arm and leg rings from the period 1500–1200 BC. BC. Grave goods of a woman from the Older Bronze Age , found on the Schaftstallberg, can be seen in the Römstedthaus local history museum in Bergen.

Districts of Wardböhmen are the villages Hoope and Sehlhof.

On February 1, 1971, Wardböhmen was incorporated into the city of Bergen.

Culture and sights

  • The mill from 1877/78 is a listed building. It was operated until 1975, but from 1950 without a wing.
  • The telecommunications tower of the radio transmission center in Bergen 1 replaced the old tower built in 1952 in 1986, which was only demolished in 1996.
  • The Schlageter monument, which commemorates Albert Leo Schlageter . It was rebuilt in 2012 and is open to the public on the edge of the forest southwest of the village.
