Washington Tais , full name Washington Eduardo Tais Bidegain , (born December 21, 1972 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.

Career

society

Washington Tais started his career in 1991 with the youth team at Club Atlético Peñarol in his hometown of Montevideo. From 1992 to 1997 he was a member of the squad in the Primera División . By 1997 he won five championship titles with the Aurinegros in five years and played alongside players like Pablo Bengoechea . After this successful period, Tais moved to the Spanish first division club Racing Santander in 1997 . There he played with his team in the Primera División until 2001 . After relegation to the second division, he left the club and moved to the newly promoted Betis Sevilla . At Real Betis he played with well-known footballers such as Joaquín , Alfonso and Denílson . In the very first season, Washington Tais and his team reached 6th place in the table and thus qualified for the 2002/03 UEFA Cup . There they reached the round of 16 and then eliminated against AJ Auxerre from France. In his last season at Betis Sevilla, the Uruguayan's team was fourth in the table and thus for the first time participation in the UEFA Champions League . Washington Tais, however, no longer played there and ended his career as an active footballer after the season. In addition to the good table placement, the club was also able to win the Copa del Rey in 2005.

In January 2011, the now 38-year-old defender returned to the football business after the end of his career at Clausura 2011 and signed a contract with first division club Danubio FC . There he came in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons to a total of 30 appearances in the Primera División , in which he scored one goal. Only twice was he not on the starting grid. While his club was third from bottom in the 2011 Clausura and only three other teams in the league had conceded more goals, his club reached second place in the 2011 Torneo Apertura. Danubio missed qualifying for the championship playoffs with just one point. With only eight goals conceded in 15 games, they also provided the safest defense. At the end of the 2011/2012 season, Danubio did not renew Tai's contract.

In September 2012, the "el Negro" called Tais moved to the second division Miramar Misiones . In the 2012/13 season he played there in 18 other league games and scored one goal. The club celebrated its promotion to the first division at the end of the season. He then joined the Canelones- based Club Atlético Santa Rosa in the Liga Artigas de Tala of the OFI in mid-August 2013 . There he also came to championship honors with the team. In mid-February 2014 it was reported that he would play for Defensor Universitario in the future .

National team

Tais took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection in the U-20 South American Championship in 1991 and finished third with the team. During the tournament he was used seven times (two goals) by coach Juan José Duarte . In the same year he played with the Celeste in the Junior World Cup in 1991 , but with the team he was eliminated in the group stage. From his debut on January 18, 1995 to his last appearance on February 13, 2002, Washington Tais completed 18 international matches (no goal) for the Uruguayan national soccer team . However , he was not part of the squad at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. At the junior soccer world championship in 1991 he was part of the youth team in his country.
