Vasyl Serhijowytsch Hryzak (born January 14, 1967 in Buschtscha , Dubno Raion , Ukrainian SSR ) was between 2015 and 2019 the head of the Sluschba bespeky Ukrajiny (SBU), the domestic intelligence service of Ukraine with the rank of colonel general .

Wassyl Hryzak studied history at the Lesja Ukrajinka State Pedagogical Institute in Lutsk in 1992 . Since 1992 he has been an employee of the Ukrainian security authorities. On December 11, 2009 was appointed the first deputy head of the SBU. After Valentyn Nalywajchenko was dismissed by President Petro Poroshenko on June 18, 2015 , Vasyl Hryzak was appointed acting head of the SBU on the same day as his deputy, and on July 2, 2015 he was officially confirmed in this post by the Verkhovna Rada with 340 votes . Since July 10, 2015, he has been a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine , also in successor to Valentyn Nalywajtschenko. On May 20, 2019, the new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he would be fired from his position as head of the secret service. On August 29, 2019, Ivan Bakanov succeeded him as chairman of the SBU.
