Ihor Oleksandrowytsch Kalinin ( Ukrainian Ігор Олександрович Калінін , Russian Игорь Александрович Калинин ; born December 28, 1959 in Moscow Oblast , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian politician and adviser to the Ukraine . Kalinin had been an employee of the KGB since 1984 , and since 1992 he taught at the Academy of the SBU in Kiev . Since 2010 he has been the head of the State Security Office (Ukrainian Управління державноо охорони України , abbreviation UDO ), which is responsible for the personal security of the President and the leading politicians of Ukraine and for the protection of state institutions.

On February 3, 2012, President Viktor Yanukovych appointed Kalinin to succeed Valery Khoroshkovsky as head of the SBU. His appointment to this post came as a surprise to political observers. In January 2013, he was replaced at the head of the SBU by Oleksandr Jakymenko . Kalinin has been appointed advisor to the President, holds the rank of Colonel-General , is married and has one son.

On March 6, 2014, the Council of the European Union in Brussels imposed restrictive measures against Ihor Kalinin with Regulation 208/2014. This is justified by the criminal prosecution of Kalinin for the investigation of crimes related to the embezzlement of Ukrainian public funds and the illegal transfer of these funds abroad.
