Wasted Land is a Saudi Arabian melodic death metal band from Jeddah that was formed in 2005.

history

Wasted Land has only released a demo called The Beginning (2006) since it was founded in 2005 , but it received a lot of media attention. The band has already conducted interviews with CNN (February 2008), the BBC and the Arab newspaper Al Hayat . On November 28th, the group played at a metal festival in Dubai / United Arab Emirates .

The band consists of Emad Mujalled ( vocals ), Ahmad Khoja ( guitar ), Ayman Al Ghamdi (guitar), Sultan Al Ghamdi ( bass ) and Tameem Helmi ( drums ). The latter replaced Majed Shaarani as drummer.

The band now also gives concerts outside of Saudi Arabia. Your last concert should have taken place in Izmir / Turkey . This concert would have been at the Uluslararsi Izmir Rock Festival together with Suidakra , Moribund Oblivion , UCK Grind and Mosh Pit Project . Due to critical situations within the families of several band members, a performance in Turkey was canceled. Concerts in Saudi Arabia itself mostly took place in secret, as Western music was banned in the ultra-conservative country. In 2010 a concert was broken up by the religious police and the musicians and organizers arrested. The band is also represented for the first time on a compilation that was produced in Sweden and is for sale all over Europe . The band is currently producing their first studio album under their new label Libra Productions .

On April 3, 2013, the group released their own debut album Wasted Land .

style

According to Moe Ezz from metality.net , the band plays melodic death metal on Wasted Land , which is comparable to that of the band from Ceremonial Oath . Especially the guitar riffs would remind you of old Death Metal from Gothenburg . The band also incorporated melodies from folk metal. The song Dying Visionary… The King started with grunge riffs that would slowly turn into folk metal riffs. Evan Barnes from blackwind.com also described the music on the debut album as melodic death metal with folk metal influences and heard parallels to groups like Ensiferum , Amon Amarth and Hammer Horde . The riffs are so melodic that they would have suited a Power Metal album. You can hardly hear the bass on the album. The song Folk Night reminded Barnes of The Falcon's Flight by Slechtvalk and Metsakukkia by Immortal Souls . The follow-up song Bells of the Falling Castle contains guitars that would be reminiscent of Falconer . The guttural singing Emad Mujalled is both deep and high. He also occasionally used shouts that would bring back memories of Thrash Metal . The riffs in Anthem of Warriors reminded me a lot of Ensiferum.
