Chaussee from Wesel to Meinerzhagen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The road from Wesel to Meinerzhagen was a connection between the coal mining area in the Ruhr area and the ore deposits in the Sauerland and Siegerland . It was one of the first highways in Prussia . The road was partially paved , so originally a toll was levied.

Wesel - Steele

In the Duchy of Kleve , the road was on Prussian territory and began at the Rhine-Lippe port of Wesel .

Negotiations with the abbess Maria Kunegunde from the Reichsstift Essen enabled the route to continue via Oberhausen , Borbeck , Essen and Steele .

Steele - Bochum

Situation around 1820 between Essen and Witten

The section from Steele to Bochum was determined by Freiherr vom Stein in 1787 and completed in 1794. It leads from Essen via Steele, Sevinghausen , Höntrop , Stahlhausen to Bochum-Mitte .

In Steele it leads through the town center. Steele was an independent city and is now a medium-sized center in the city of Essen. The section of Bochumer Straße between Grendplatz and Grenoblestraße still contains the historical architecture of the otherwise heavily rebuilt district ( area renovation instead of object renovation). In Essen, the section following east is called Bochumer Landstrasse .

At the border between Essen and Wattenscheid there is a stele with the inscription “PW | PR “from the ground. It marks the new border between the province of Westphalia and the Rhineland after Königssteele was incorporated into Steele on April 1, 1926.

In Bochum the street is called Wattenscheider Hellweg , Essener Straße and Alleestraße . In parts it follows the Hellweg as a high-altitude path over the watershed between the Ruhr and Emscher and has a good view in the distance. It bypasses the Wattenscheid north of the road, where Ahbach , the Radbecke and the Leithebach would have made for a rather boggy subsoil. Among other things, it takes you to the Stalleicken district of Sevinghausen, past the St. Bartholomew's pilgrim chapel and the Helfs Hof local history museum . Before Höntrop, it crosses Landstrasse 651 . In Stahlhausen she passes the Thyssen-Krupp-Haus and the grounds of the Bochumer Verein with the Westpark and the Jahrhunderthalle .

Bochum - Crengeldanz

The road from Bochum to Witten-Crengeldanz was completed as early as 1789 .

Crengeldanz - Meinerzhagen

The further course led via Herdecke , Hagen , Breckerfeld to Meinerzhagen .
