We Are the Fallen was an American alternative metal band that consisted of former members of the band Evanescence and American Idol participant Carly Smithson .

Band history

Rhythm guitarist John LeCompt

In 2003, Ben Moody left Evanescence because he no longer agreed with the musical direction of the group. When the members John LeCompt and Rocky Gray also left in 2007, he tried to win the two for a new band. The three then held auditions in New York to find a singer. Eventually, however, it was more by chance that they found a suitable singer in former American Idol participant Carly Smithson.

After the band called themselves "The Fallen" after the successful Evanescence debut album , they later adopt the name We Are the Fallen. Bassist Marty O'Brien (including session bassist with Kelly Clarkson , Static-X and Methods of Mayhem ) joined the group. At an exclusive listening session in Hollywood for interested record companies on June 22, 2009, the group played the Evanescence song Going Under and their first original composition, Bury Me Alive .

On the same day the official website of the band goes online. Interested parties could register via email address and the first 100,000 interested parties received the first single Bury Me Alive as a download . On October 28, 2009, the band signed with Universal Republic Records and announced their debut album. On February 2, 2010, Bury Me Alive was released in a remastered version on the official website.

The group's live debut took place on March 23, 2010 at Kings College, London . The debut album Tear the World Down was released on May 11, 2010. A total of 12 songs, including a cover version of Madonna's Like a Prayer , are on the album.

Music genre

The music can be assigned to Nu Metal or Alternative Metal . Slight influences from Gothic Metal are recognizable. Although We Are the Fallen see themselves as an independent band, comparisons with Evanescence are of course essential. The three ex-members use similar song structures as in their former group. Even Carly Smithson can add little new emphasis. The group's lack of ingenuity was therefore criticized by the critics.
