The Weißenbach is a tributary of the Grundlseer Traun near Grundlsee and Bad Aussee in the Salzkammergut in Styria .

Run and landscape

The Weißenbachtal is located around 5 kilometers east of Bad Aussee , southwest of Grundlsee . It stretches between the Turks Kogel comb the north and the Rötelstein massif in the south.

The Weißenbach rises between the Türkenkogel summit ( 1756  m above sea level ) and the Schnoderitzkogel  ( 1545  m above sea level ) on the Weißenbachsattel . This is where the Zlaimmöser Moore are located , from which the Zlaimgraben rises on the other side of the pass , which drains into the Hinterberger Tal to the Enns. In the high valley - already behind the watershed, but still in the valley - lies the Zleimalm, the Zlaimgraben breaks south of this alp through the edge of the terrain and runs southwards.

The Weißenbach first runs westwards over the Weißenbachalm, where the Eisengraben from the Teltschen flows into the Schnoderitzkogel. Then the ditch deepens between the Zlaimkögeln to the north and the Rötelstein  ( 1614  m above sea level ) to the south. On the left above is the village of Weißenbach . The stream turns northwest, passes Zlaim on the right and then flows through the village of Archkogl .

At Au , after a good 6 kilometers, the stream flows into the Grundlseer Traun from the left , just after the Grundlsee. The Grundlseer Traun is the main path of the Traun .

Geology and nature

The upper Weißenbachgraben belongs to the Gosau strata . They are south of a west to east through the Dead Mountains trending fault (salt gate line) open, the Hallstatt layers in the south of the main dolomite separates -mass the Dead Mountains.

The Gosau conglomerates form a water-retaining layer here. A saddle moor area has developed on this, partly in the saddle hollow and partly at the foot of the Schnoderitzkogel. In 2006 the moor was designated as a European protected area Zlaimmöser-Moore / Weissenbachalm  (No. 18).
