The Hinterberg (also Hinterberger Tal ) is a small region in the Styrian Salzkammergut ( Ausseerland ) in the north-west of Styria . It originally comprised the three municipalities of Bad Mitterndorf , Pichl-Kainisch and Tauplitz , which have been amalgamated in Styria since the municipal structural reform in 2015. Since then, the Hinterberger Tal has been entirely in the municipality of Bad Mitterndorf.
Room division
The Hinterberger Tal extends east of the Radling Pass to the Klachauer Höhe and the narrow point on the Grimming . It is bordered to the north by the Dead Mountains and south by the Kemet Mountains and the Grimming.
Integrated in the Ausseerland , the Hinterberg forms the Styrian Salzkammergut . The village of Mitterndorf forms the center of the Hinterberger Valley. The entire valley is known as a spa and winter sports destination (Grimming-Therme, Tauplitzalm ski area , Kulm ski jump ).
A spatial separation into the Ausseerland and the Hinterberger Tal (community Bad Mitterndorf) is still given geographically (Ausseer Becken and Hinterberger Tal), but is no longer administratively relevant. The Hinterberger Tal is also used colloquially in the region.
From an administrative point of view, however, the Hinterberg is established at all levels under the name Ausseerland , which the State of Styria underlines in its spatial planning. The municipalities of the Styrian Salzkammergut are referred to in Styrian spatial planning as the "Kleinregion Bad Aussee" and also form the Ausseerland-Salzkammergut Tourist Association , one of ten individual associations behind the Salzkammergut umbrella brand and the joint Ausseerland - Salzkammergut regional association.
Valley watersheds
The Hinterberger Tal is a valley with two valley passes between Traun (via Kainischtraun ) and Enns (via Salza [bach] and Grimming ).
The valley watershed Kainischtraun / Salza (bach), and thus Traun / Enns, is located at the Knoppenmoos moor at an altitude of approx. 812 m above sea level. A. The Salza / Grimming (bach) valley watershed is at the western end of Tauplitz station at 833 m above sea level. A. ( Klachau [he height] ). You drive up from the Ennstal Grimmingbach - Klachau - Krunglbach downwards - cross Zauchenbach and Salzabach - then you go up Oberdorfer Bach - Schinkengraben and Riedlbach-Traun downwards and then you reach the bottleneck of the Kainischtraun into the Ausseerland ( Kainischtal ).
The valley watersheds in the Hinterberger Tal connect the Dead Mountains with the Dachstein Mountains : the first with the Dachstein massif , the second with the Solitary Grimming . Strangely, the Salza crosses the valley, which runs eastwards here, in a north-south direction. This section is specifically called the Mitterndorfer Basin . Although the Grimmingstock hangs orographically closer to the Dead Mountains, because the Salza then cuts deeply into the Kemet Mountains of the Dachstein (for example: Salzastausee at 770 m above sea level , below 730 m ), it becomes part of the Alpine Club division of the Eastern Alps (AVE) the latter calculated. That is also geologically appropriate, the Grimming is a broken off part of the huge limestone clod of the Dachsteinstock. The valley to the southern flank of the Dead Mountains to the Grimmingstock, the southern Hinterberg, is orographically much more extensively eroded.
The only passable connection from the Ennstal to the Traun valley is the two passes through the Salzkammergutstrasse (with the variant of the old Salzstrasse over the Radlingpass near Pichl) and the Salzkammergutbahn .
