The 224 km long White Ijus ( Russian Белый Июс , Bely Ijus ) is the right source river of the Tschulym (river system of the Ob ) in Siberia ( Russia , Asia ).

geography

The White Ijus itself arises on the eastern flank of the Kuznetsk Alatau at an altitude of 712  m from the left source river Pichterek ( Пихтерек , source at about 1200  m , specified length together with this) and the right source river Turalyg ( Туралыг , source at about 1600  m ). In the upper reaches, the river has the character of a fast mountain river with a narrow valley, which widens sharply on the lower 100 kilometers in the steppes of the western part of the Chulym-Yenisei depression. At the village of Maly Sjutik ( Малый Сютик ) the White Ijus finally unites at a height of about 380  m with the shorter (178 km) left source river Black Ijus ( Чёрный Июс , Tschorny Ijus) to the Tschulym. Together with the White Ijus, the Tschulym has a length of 2023 kilometers and is one of the most important rivers in Siberia. Near the confluence, the White Ijus is about 75 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep; the flow velocity is 1.2 m / s.

Hydrology

The catchment area covers 5,370 km². The mean monthly water flow at Ijus (formerly Krasny Ijus ) 55 km above the confluence with the Chulym is 44 m³ / s (minimum in February: 4.0 m³ / s, maximum in June: 136 m³ / s).

Infrastructure

The White Ijus flows through the autonomous republic of Khakassia along its entire length . There are no cities on the river, but the municipal administrative centers Berenschak and Jefremkino in Shira district and Ijus (formerly Krasny Ijus ) in Ordzhonikidsewski district and smaller villages subordinate to them.

In the lower section of the river valley, the Achinsk  - Abakan railway (connection between the Trans-Siberian and South Siberian Railway ) runs.
