Santa Claus Junior - The film (original title: Engl. Santa's Apprentice / French. L'Apprenti Père Noël ) is a cartoon from 2010. The film is an offshoot of the television series Santa Claus Junior and takes place before it.

action

An old rule states that after 178 years of service, Santa Claus must appoint a young successor and train him as his apprentice. The current Santa Claus is not enthusiastic about it and first tries to avoid it, then finally accepts it and asks the magical globe for suitable candidates. You can only become Santa Claus if you meet three criteria: Your name must be Santa Claus, you must be an orphan and you must have an absolutely pure heart. This only applies to one child living in an orphanage in Sydney . There Nikolaus just had to part with his best friend Felix, who found new parents who moved to the USA with him.

During the night, Santa Claus comes to the orphanage with the imp Humphrey. Since Humphrey has lost the pure heart detector, he picks the wrong boy, who is called Nikolaus Grincroch. However, Santa Claus realizes that the other Santa Claus is the one with the pure heart and takes him with him. So Nicholas comes to the North Pole , where he receives a little white bear as a pet, which he calls Rufus. He also meets Beatrix, Santa's housekeeper. His apprenticeship is supposed to last a year and begins with the fact that he has to learn how to climb chimneys and deliver the presents undetected. When Nicholas wants to make a special toy as a surprise, it goes wrong and, in addition to many presents, also lights Santa's beard.

Felix and his new parents now have the problem that they can no longer afford their house and have to move into a rundown mobile home. When Santa Claus sets out on Christmas Eve, the reindeer apprentice Waldorf is also allowed to pull the sled for the first time. Shortly afterwards, Beatrix realizes that Santa has forgotten his magic ball, with the help of which he can reduce and enlarge everything and also get into houses without a fireplace. Nikolaus manages to bring them after him and with their help they transform the Christmas present for Felix, a model house, into a real house in which the family can now live.

When they deliver the presents to Nikolaus' former orphanage on the way to Sydney, the police are already waiting for them because Nikolaus Grincroch has informed the police. The police mistake Santa Claus for the kidnapper of Nikolaus, who had disappeared from the orphanage for a year now, and are putting him in prison. However, he can convince her that he is the real Santa Claus as he remembers all of their names and events from their childhood.

The cheeky Nikolaus Grincroch has meanwhile appropriated the magic ball and wants to take the presents for himself. However, Nikolaus manages to steal it from him and after a conversation with Santa Claus, the boy wants to improve himself. Santa Claus now knows that Nicholas will be a good Santa Claus and hands him his magic ball. Old Santa Claus is already making plans for the time after that and also wants to help out in the orphanage.

The apprenticeship period for Nikolaus in the film is one year, in the series there are 15. In contrast to the series, the film features a girl named Beatrix who comes with Nikolaus to the North Pole at the end of the film. In addition, Nikolaus is friends with two Eskimo children named Nik Nak and Tim Tim, with whom he also goes to school.

Reviews

"Carefree, fabulous entertainment film as 2D animation that tells its message in a child-friendly manner."

“Warm-hearted Australian-French animated film that tells about the training of a successor for Santa Claus in a traditional but colorful 2D style. In a pleasantly old-fashioned way, the adventure of little Santa Claus should create a festive atmosphere, especially for viewers under ten years of age. "
