Holy Water Joe (original title: Acqua Santa Joe ) is a spaghetti western from Mario Gariazzo from the year 1971st
action
During the American Civil War, the renegade southern officer Donovan took the opportunity to steal a large cannon with his men and use it to rob banks. The army hires the bounty hunter Weihwasser Joe, who first ensures that Charlie Bennett, one of Donovan's men, is brought back to the gang - Bennett had made his own life with the loot. Then Joe plays the bandits and the army off against each other, leaving him with the money.
Reviews
For Ulrich P. Bruckner, Weihwasser Joe is a “pretty bad Western with a confused plot”, while Christian Keßler comments positively: “At least Harrison is spoken by Klaus Löwitsch ... the humor is of the gruff nature. Not much, but plenty of it. ".
The Italian critics were also not very enthusiastic: “The film, made by Mario Gariazzo on a tight budget, could be one of the unconventional spaghetti wests, if it didn't cover up its cumbersome plot with endless shootings and a few gimmicks, so that it only comes across as intended and not very well received thinks “, wrote L. Autera and Segnalazioni Cinematografiche even said: Badly made and with even worse ideas. The figure drawing is completely insubstantial. The lexicon of international films also advised against it: "A little original, bumpy staged spaghetti western that tries to make ends meet with ostensible black humor and brash dialogues."
Remarks
- Another exploitation of the film as a photographic romance appeared in France ( Ciné Colt Star No. 43, 1973)
