Weimar is a city in Texas , United States . It's about 140 km west of Houston on Interstate 10 . In 2000 the population was 1981. Weimar is part of Colorado County . Czech and German settlers have helped shape the place.

The location is on Interstate 10 / US Highway 90 between San Antonio , Austin and Houston. Weimar's geographic coordinates are 29 ° 42 ′ N , 96 ° 47 ′ W (29.702348, −96.779950).
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 5.9 km² , which consists entirely of land.
history
The city was founded in 1873 in anticipation of the planned railway line from Galveston to San Antonio . Its original name was Jackson, after the landowner who donated land to the railroad for the railroad. It was later renamed Weimar by the residents. A Thomas W. Pierce is said to have been so taken with Weimar during a visit to Germany that he chose this name.
Weimar was incorporated as a town in 1875 . The city initially grew rapidly and ten years after it was founded, it had over 1,000 inhabitants. The newspaper, The Weimar Mercury , which still exists today , appeared for the first time in 1888 . The city reached its maximum number of 2,400 inhabitants in 1976.

The former Galveston, Harrisburg, and St. Antonio Railway still operates today as part of the Southern Pacific Railroad .

Agriculture plays an important role in Weimar. There are also meat and sheet metal processing companies and a manufacturer of seals.
Demographics
At the time of the 2000 United States Census, 1981 people lived in Weimar. The population density was 338.4 people per km ². There were 940 housing units at an average of 160.6 per km ². Weimar's population was 67.95% white , 21.76% black or African American , 0.15% Native American , 0.91% Asian , 7.67% said they were of other races and 1.56% mentioned two or more races. 14.74% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Weimar were distributed to 817 households out of which 27.2% were living in children under 18 years. 47.6% of households were married, 13.3% had a female head of household without a husband and 36.0% were not families. 33.7% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 20.7% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
The population was divided into 24.5% minors, 6.1% 18–24 year olds, 22.3% 25–44 year olds, 22.7% 45–64 year olds and 24.4% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 women there were 83.4 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 77.8 men.
The median household income in Weimar was 27,667 US dollars, and the median family income reached the level of 42,143 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 31,477 compared to $ 16,757 for women. The per capita income in Weimar was 16,272 US dollars. 13.2% of the population and 9.0% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 22.0% of minors and 14.5% of those aged 65 and over.
