The formerly independent municipality of Weitenung has been a district of Bühl (Baden) since 1973 . In the national competition Our village has a future , Weitenung was awarded silver in 1975 and gold in 1977. The place is called the Blumendorf Widening . Districts are Witstung, Elzhofen, Mühle-Neustadt and Ottenhofen.
history
Like Leiberstung and Halberstung, the place was an island in the marshland between the Rench and the Oos and had been inhabited since the year 60 AD. It was first mentioned in a document dated May 22, 884 AD by Charlemagne as Widendunc . Weitenung belonged to the upper office of Yberg until 1788 and to the district office of Bühl since the 18th century. On January 1, 1973, expansion was incorporated into the city of Bühl.
politics
The local council consists of ten volunteers. The honorary mayor is called Daniel Fritz.
The blazon of the coat of arms reads: In black a waning, formed silver crescent moon.
A partnership with the Austrian municipality of Mattsee has existed since October 20, 1972 .
Attractions
The Catholic Church of the Holy Blood was built in 1923–1925. The foundation stone was laid on October 14, 1923. The bells began to ring in 1925 and the new church clock in 1928.

Facilities
Public facilities are the Rheintalhalle from 1972, a primary school , two kindergartens , a sports field and several playgrounds .
The local heritage association maintains a local history museum . There is also a branch of the Sparkasse and the Volksbank. Weitenung has a quarry pond with a gravel plant, which is used by the Weitenung fishing club, among others. The former youth center is currently being converted into a multi-generation house and refurbished. There is a doctor and a pharmacy, a bakery and a Demeter / organic store, as well as two restaurants. The most beautiful inn until April 2017 was unfortunately closed and the Weitenunger community has been mourning the beloved "Rössel" since then.

Russian-Germans also participate in carnival areas, among other things. Up until 1993, Canadians were also very involved in the village community; via the German-Canadian Club.

Nearby cities are Karlsruhe (42.5 km), Freiburg (approx. 100 km), Rastatt (20 km) and Baden-Baden with approx. 13 km, there is also a connection from Greffern with the ferry Drusus to Drusenheim in France. Weitenung is close to federal highway 3 and directly on federal highway 5 .
