history

Sinzheim was first mentioned in writing in 884 under Emperor Karl III. as Sunninisheim , which goes back to the Franconian settlement Sunini . From this name, the current place name Sinzheim developed over the place names Suenesheim (1154), Sunnesheim (1261), Suminsheim (1272), Sunzheim (1401), Sunzhaim (1523) and Suntzheim (1610) . Sinzheim was the target of a bombing raid during World War II on March 4, 1945 , which destroyed the Sinzheim train station. The place belonged to the district of Bühl for a long time and came to the district of Rastatt in 1973 . On January 1, 1973, body armor was incorporated.

religion

Catholic parish

One of the main holdings of the Schwarzach Monastery in Sinzheim was a Fronhof with its own church , a Romanesque choir tower church . The documentary confirmation of the possession by Bishop Burchard I of Strasbourg in 1154 is today considered the beginning of the parish.

The Catholic parish of St. Martin, like its parish church, is dedicated to St. Martin . The present church was built from 1898 to 1900 according to plans by the Archbishop's building officer Johannes Schroth and consecrated in November 1900 (patronage); she is the successor of many predecessor churches (including 1154, 1497, 1771). 1984–1995 the church was renovated for the last time.

Until 1824 Sinzheim belonged to the Archdiocese of Strasbourg , from there to the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

The branches Halberstung, Kartung, Müllhofen, Schiftung, Vormberg, Winden have always belonged to the parish church of Sinzheim, while the branch in Leiberstung was re-parish in 1986 from Rheinmünster-Schwarzach to St. Martin Sinzheim. Since October 23, 2005, the parish of St. Martin Sinzheim and the parish of St. Laurentius Hügelsheim form a pastoral care unit .

coat of arms

Coat of arms Sinzheim.png

Sinzheim's coat of arms shows a red castle over a green three-mountain on a silver background. A red pennant blows on the highest tower of the castle. Next to the castle there is a black paw cross on the left and a red sester with a red hook on the right .

The coat of arms was introduced in 1903 when all municipal seals were checked in the Baden-Baden district and contains elements of an old Sinzheim court seal. At the request of the municipal council, a first draft was supplemented by the castle and changed to the coat of arms that is valid today.

Partnerships

The community of Sinzheim has been in partnership with the southern French wine-growing community of Pignan near Montpellier since 1975.

traffic

Sinzheim is divided by the B 3 (old) ( Buxtehude - Weil am Rhein ) into a western and an eastern part. The construction of the B 3 on the western outskirts has been dragging on for years and making little progress (legal reasons). Sinzheim is also connected to the B 500 ( Iffezheim - Waldshut ). Two S-Bahn stops of the KVV on the Rheintalbahn ( Mannheim - Basel ) offer connections to long-distance rail transport. The A5 can be reached directly via a motorway slip road and is only around four kilometers away. In addition, the Baden Airpark is only about ten kilometers away. The next ICE train station is around five kilometers away in Baden-Baden .
