The village of Welden belongs to the municipality of Fuchstal in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech .

Geographical location

Welden is located about three kilometers southwest of the Leeder district of Fuchstal on the slope of a small valley near the border with the Ostallgäu district . Welden is characterized by four larger and a number of smaller, artificially created fish ponds (from south to north: Hofweiher , Kreuzweiher , Neuweiher and Mühlweiher ) in the immediate vicinity of the village.

history

Welden was created as a clearing settlement. "Egilolf and Adalbero de Weldin", who were in the retinue of the Counts of Ronsberg from 1147 to 1170 , are documented. Welden later belonged to the St. Mang monastery in Füssen , and from 1476 to St. Ulrich and Afra in Augsburg . In 1503 Riedheim von Waal attacked the mill because of a dispute over fishing rights in the ponds and smashed the millstones. Then Welden passed through inheritance and purchase to the Augsburg patrician family Welser before it passed into the possession of the Fuggers in 1595 .

Welden used to be a parish village , so the parish church of St. Stephan had its own pastor, but the poor income of the parish let the parish fall back to the parish of Leeder in 1605.

structure

Welden is still rural and mainly characterized by fish farms. Two inns located at or near the ponds, bathing facilities at the ponds, a fishing trail and an extensive network of hiking trails make the small village of Welden a popular local recreation area, especially on weekends, with a catchment area ranging from Kaufbeuren to Augsburg.
