Weliman is a district ( Kecamatan ) of the Indonesian administrative district ( Indonesian Kabupaten ) Malaka ( East Nusa Tenggara Province ) on the island of Timor . The administrative headquarters are in Kmilaran in the administrative village (Desa) Laleten .

Weliman is located in the south of the Malaka administrative district in western central Timor. In the west Weliman borders on the district of Rinhat , in the north and east on the district of Central Malaka (Malaka Tengah) , in the south on the districts of West Malaka (Malaka Barat) and Wewiku and in the south-west on the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) . Weliman has an area of ​​88.25 km².

The district is divided into 14 villages ( Indonesian Desa ):

The main towns of the Desas are all below 500  m above sea level . Two rivers flow in Rinhat: the larger Benenai , which crosses the district four kilometers at the narrowest point of Weliman, and the Motadelek for a distance of twelve kilometers.

The temperature in the district fluctuates between 24 and 34 ° C.

Residents

In 2016, 18,358 people (8,876 men and 9,482 women) lived in 5,246 households in the district. 2,356 residents were 0 to 4 years old, 274 were 75 years or older. Most of the people live in Desa Haitimuk (2,830 inhabitants). 15,986 people profess the Catholic faith, 2,334 are Protestants and 38 Muslims. There are five Catholic churches and chapels and twelve Protestant churches in the district.

Public facilities

There are 19 elementary schools, seven junior high schools, and two senior high schools in the district. 59 health facilities are available for medical care.

economy

Rice is grown on 1,276 hectares, maize is planted on 1,285 hectares and cassava grows on 75 hectares. Other crops are green beans (345 hectares), coconuts, pecans, cocoa and cashews. In 2015, the district kept 3,821 cattle, ten horses, 3,922 pigs and 703 goats as farm animals. There are also 28,414 chickens and 738 ducks. There are no water buffalos and sheep. 469 companies work in the manufacturing and processing industries. 72 dealers are active in Weliman.
