The Welmo ( Russian Вельмо ) is a 504 km long left tributary of the Stony Tunguska in the Central Siberian mountainous region in Russia .
course
The Welmo rises about 600 m on a table mountain in the western part of the Central Siberian Mountains, east of the Yenisei Ridge and a good 100 km southeast of the gold prospecting settlement Severo-Yenisiski , not far from the source of the right Yenisei tributary Great Pit (Bolshoi Pit). It flows in wide arches in a partially narrow valley through the taiga landscape of the mountainous region in a predominantly north to north-westerly direction, in the middle course also to the west. It finally flows into the Stony Tunguska at a height of 57 m .
The most important tributaries are the Jenngida from the right and the Teja , Tschapa and Burnaja (also called Telma) from the left.
Over its entire length, the Welmo flows through the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory , mainly the northeast of Severo-Yenisisky Raion . Only the lower reaches and the mouth are already on the territory of Evenki Rajon (" Evenki Rajon", until December 31, 2006 the Evenki Autonomous District ).
Hydrography
The catchment area of the Welmo covers 33,800 km². In the vicinity of the mouth, the river is 400 m wide and 1.5 m deep; the flow velocity here is 0.6 m / s.
The Welmo freezes from October / November to April / May. The water flow 187 km above the mouth and 7 km below the confluence of the most important tributary Teja averages 225 m³ / s with a minimum of 41.6 m³ / s in March and a maximum of 878 m³ / s in May, 54 km above the estuary is already 358 m³ / s on an annual average.
Infrastructure and economy
The Welmo is navigable for 220 km from the village of Welmo above the Teja confluence, but navigation is hindered by the relatively strong current and numerous shallows.
The Welmo flows through very sparsely populated areas. On the river there are only the small settlements Welmo, Kuromba (at the confluence of the right tributary of the same name) and Burny (at the confluence of the Burnaja, a few kilometers above the confluence with the Stony Tunguska) with only a few hundred inhabitants. Unpaved slopes lead to Welmo and Kuromba from the Severo-Jenisseiski Rajon center, otherwise there are no traffic routes in the area through which the water flows. In the area of the tributary Teja and its tributary Jenaschimo there are some larger settlements - gold mining is carried out there.
