The World Movement of Christian Workers (WBCA) ( en . : World Movement of Christian Workers , abbreviation: WMCW; fr . : Mouvement Mondial des Travailleurs Chrétiens ; es . : Movimiento Mundial Trabajadores Cristianos ; French, Italian and Spanish abbreviations: MMTC) is an association by believers in the Roman Catholic Church , it was recognized by the papacy in 1966 and, as a non-governmental organization, is an advisory member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations , it is also a member of the International Labor Organization and UNESCO . Its nearly 50 member movements operate in 79 countries around the world.

history

At the suggestion of workers' organizations from Belgium , Germany , France , the Netherlands , Austria and Switzerland , the idea of ​​founding a world movement arose in the 1960s. The 75th anniversary of the social encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891) of Pope Leo XIII. (1878–1903) finally became the occasion for official papal recognition in 1966.

"Let us build a just, solidary and sustainable society", with this slogan the movement for education , training and evangelism underlines its charismatic claim and moves with it within the framework of Catholic social teaching on the claim of faith according to Jesus Christ . With this claim, the WBCA addresses workers , the unemployed , people in social problem areas, pensioners and housewives and carries out their educational work without regard to race , culture or religion . The pedagogy of the movement is based on the so-called “ Révision de vie ”, a holistic method of “seeing-judging-acting”. The movement is committed to a peaceful and social life for all people who are of good will and want to share professional, cultural and civic responsibility.

Organization and expansion

The delegates of the member movements take part in the general assembly , which takes place every four years . It is there that those responsible for the Executive Committee, the Office and the General Secretariat are elected. In detail, these bodies are made up as follows: The Executive Committee with the representatives of the continents , the Office with an international composition of the President, the Vice-President, two General Secretaries and the Treasurer , from whom two female leadership positions must be filled. The general secretariat is occupied by the two general secretaries and the ecclesiastical assistant . The WBCA has around 50 member organizations and 8 partner movements, and another 19 groups maintain constant contact. The movement is spread across 79 countries in Africa , Asia , Europe , the Middle East , North America and South America . The Catholic Labor Movement (KAB) is one of the member organizations from Germany . The head office is based in Brussels , the movement does not maintain or operate its own plants and centers, it is supportive and organizational, it publishes a four-language magazine called INFOR.
