Werba (Ukrainian and Russian Верба ; Polish Werba ) is a Ukrainian village in Volyn Oblast . It is located in the Wolodymyr-Wolynskyj district , about 9 kilometers northeast of the district capital Volodymyr-Wolynskyj and about 71 kilometers west of the Oblast capital Lutsk on the Turija River.
On June 23, 2016, the village became part of the newly founded rural community Owadne (Оваднівська сільська громада / Owadniwska silska hromada ), until then the village formed together with the villages of Markeliwka , Suswal and Owadne the district council of Owadne.
The village was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1570 and belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland (in the Volhynian Voivodeship ) until the third division of Poland , then came to the Russian Empire , where it was in the Volhynian governorate and was called Werby . In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and came to the Wolhynia Voivodeship in the Powiat Włodzimierz , Gmina Werba . As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Soviet Union occupied the area and made the place the capital of the Werba Rajon of the same name in January 1940 , but this was moved to Owadne in 1946 and Werba remained a simple village. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, the place was under German rule until 1944 (in the Reichskommissariat Ukraine ), came back to the Soviet Union after the Second World War , was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991.
