history

overview

The Werner von Siemens School was founded in Cham in 1907 as a commercial advanced training school. Forerunners were commercial advanced training schools and agricultural vocational schools. In the first year of its existence, a total of 137 students in 24 different professions were taught in three classes.

chronology

In 1884, the municipality of Cham founded a two-course day training school with voluntary school attendance. On December 13, 1906, the city council of Cham decided to build a compulsory commercial training school in place of the voluntary day school. On August 5, 1907, the curricula were published by the Royal Government of the Upper Palatinate. In the same year the enrollment and distribution of the students took place, so that on October 7, 1907, classes could begin.

On November 12, 1920, it was decided to convert the commercial training school into a public vocational training school for boys, and in 1929 a vocational training school for girls was established. In 1930 a commercial department was added.

In 1932, the name "Cham vocational school" was used for the first time. From 1934, the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture ordered physical education at vocational schools. Since 1938, foreign apprentices have had the opportunity to visit as guests, as long as the space available and the number of students allowed.

In April 1949 an agricultural vocational school was established in Cham.

On April 5, 1967, the town council of Cham decided to give it the name "Werner von Siemens School". On September 1, 1973, the previously independent vocational schools Cham, Furth im Wald, Kötzting, Roding and Waldmünchen were merged into a district vocational school, which became state sponsored on August 1, 1974.

On April 22, 2007, the Werner von Siemens School celebrated its 100th anniversary.

In June 2017, when the administration moved, the headquarters of the Werner von Siemens School were relocated to the new building at Badstrasse 23. The location Dr.-Muggenthaler-Straße 11 has been a branch since then.
