Werner Georg Kimmerling

Werner Georg Kimmerling (born March 23, 1913 in Martinroda in Thuringia , † September 5, 1995 in Neumünster-Einfeld ) was a German naval officer , most recently flotilla admiral of the German Navy .

Person and family

Kimmerling graduated from high school in 1931 and then began studying in Graz .

In 1942 he married his wife Ursula, b. Donath, with whom he had four daughters.

Service in the Reich and Kriegsmarine

On 1 April 1932 Kimmerling contacted the Niobe - Department as an engineer trainee officers in the Imperial Navy one. He was promoted to lieutenant (engineer) on April 1, 1936 and then served as chief engineer in the 1st escort flotilla .

During the Second World War he served, among other things, as a guard engineer on the light cruiser Emden and with the 8th destroyer flotilla. As chief engineer of the destroyer Z 25 , he took part in the Cerberus company in 1942 . From 1943 he was active in various staff and training functions before he was promoted to Korvettenkapitän (Ing.) On January 1, 1944 , and in April 1945 was commander of the 165 Marine Rifle Battalion. With this association he took part in the final battle for Mecklenburg. On May 2nd he was wounded near Berlinchen and shortly thereafter was taken prisoner by the British.

post war period

While he was a prisoner of war , Kimmerling was employed by the Kiel Marine Service Group as a department head and liaison officer to the British Navy . In 1947 he was dismissed and took up a position as a regional engineer at BP Petrol AG in Hamburg . In 1954 he became sales manager of an industrial company in Halver in Westphalia .

Service in the German Navy

On April 1, 1956, Kimmerling joined the new German Navy as a frigate captain and initially served as an assistant in the Federal Ministry of Defense . In 1961/62 he took part in a course at the NATO Defense College in Paris . Subsequently, as captain at sea, he became chief of staff at the command of ship technology . From 1964 to 1968 he was in command of the ship takeover command . From 1968 until his retirement on March 31, 1971, Kimmerling served as admiral and stage manager ship technology in the naval office .

Further activity

After retiring, Kimmerling worked again for BP Gasoline AG until 1973, this time as a freelance consulting engineer. From 1976 on, he was one of the spokespersons for the Schutzgemeinschaft der Kleinteileäre eV for 17 years
