Werner Manneberg

Werner Manneberg (born June 19, 1923 in Breslau ; † December 11, 2000 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SED ). He was chairman of the council of the Cottbus district .

Life

Manneberg was born the son of a businessman and a saleswoman. His parents were members of the SPD . Manneberg attended elementary school and began commercial training in 1937. He then worked as a clerk in a textile wholesaler in Breslau. In August 1943 he was charged with "belonging to the youth movement of the" Gestapo arrested and was in September 1943 in police custody, then until its liberation in April 1945 in the concentration camp in Buchenwald .

In September 1945 Manneberg joined the KPD and in 1946 became a member of the SED. From 1945 to 1949 he was secretary of the district administrator in Döbeln , then in 1949/50 District Councilor for Interior at the Council of the Döbeln district . In 1950 he became an instructor in the state organs department of the Saxon state management. In 1951 Manneberg attended the SED state party school in Meissen . In January / February 1952 he was first personal assistant to the Prime Minister of Saxony, Max Seydewitz , and then from February to July 1952 instructor of the department of state organs of the Central Committee of the SED. From 1952 to 1959 he was chairman of the Cottbus district board of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship . From August 1952 to July 1959 he was chairman of the council of the Cottbus district. Manneberg was replaced as chairman of the council in July 1959 because, according to the Central Committee department, management issues “did not keep pace with developments and the constantly growing demands”. The SED district party control commission Cottbus also recommended to the district management office that Manneberg should be reprimanded (party punishment) for ignoring “the party's decisions”, disregarding “its leading role” and “managerial approach to the solution of the tasks”. From September 1959 to 1962 Manneberg only acted as chairman of the Neustrelitz district council .

From 1962 to 1974 he was the first vice-president of the City and Municipal Council of the GDR and from 1969 to 1988 a member of the National Council of the National Front . From 1974 to 1988 Manneberg held the office of deputy general secretary of the League for Friendship of Nations and was a member of its executive committee. In 1975 he was elected Vice President of the GDR-Portugal Friendship Society.
