Hans Schmidt (politician, 1915)

Hans Schmidt (born July 24, 1915 in Erfurt , † December 15, 1995 in Cottbus ) was a German politician ( SED ). He was chairman of the council of the Cottbus district .

Life

Schmidt, son of a locksmith, attended elementary school . In 1929 he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth . From 1929 to 1932 he served an apprenticeship as a plumber and installer in Erfurt and attended the College of the plumbers and fitters. From 1932 to 1937 he was a journeyman in Erfurt, interrupted in 1935/36 by his Reich labor service in Ilmenau . From 1937 to 1945 he had to do military service and military service in the Wehrmacht . He became a British prisoner of war .

After his return from captivity in 1946, Schmidt worked as a plumber at the Schwarzheide synthesis plant until 1950 . In 1949 he passed the master craftsman examination. In 1950 he became a candidate and in July 1951 a member of the SED. From 1950 to 1955 he was a district councilor or chairman of the Senftenberg district council .

In 1955/56 he studied for a year at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg , after which he continued this degree as a distance learning course until 1962, when he graduated with a degree in political science.

From 1956 to 1962 he was the first secretary of the Cottbus-Stadt district leadership of the SED. From June 1962 to May 1971 Schmidt was chairman of the Cottbus district council. He was replaced at his own request for health reasons and disabled at the suggestion of the doctors. Schmidt later worked as a volunteer employee of the Cottbus district management of the SED and as chairman of the commission for the care of old, deserving party members of the Cottbus district management.
