Werner Oehlschlaeger (born November 8, 1928 in Kempten ; † July 22, 2008 in Lübeck ) was a German silversmith.

Life

Oehlschlaeger studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1942 to 1944 . As a student of Rolf Koolman (1900–1954), he worked in his workshop during his apprenticeship. He then worked as a journeyman in various workshops. His masterpiece, a statuette of Saint Eligius , the patron saint of gold and silversmiths, is privately owned. Since 1955 he worked as a master silversmith in Lübeck with his own workshop. His work is based on the Bauhaus style . Almost all Lübeck churches of both denominations now have liturgical equipment from his workshop.

Museums in Schleswig-Holstein and New York bought his works . In the Vic Janssens (1909–2001) collection, from 2002 to 2014 in the Sterckshof Silver Museum near Antwerp , 60 works by Oehlschlaeger were represented. Since 2018 they have been part of the collection of the DIVA Museum in Antwerp. Many of his works were bought as gifts by the public sector, for example by the cities of Hamburg and Lübeck and the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The Sieghardt von Köckritz Prize comes from his workshop .

His workshop is continued by his wife Margerete Oehlschlaeger and his daughter Maya Oehlschlaeger in Lübeck's Pfaffenstraße . In 1975 and 2013 he had solo exhibitions at the St. Annen Museum in Lübeck .
