The Sieghardt von Köckritz Prize honors personalities who have made a special contribution to the preservation of cultural monuments in Germany.

It was donated in 1999 by the German Foundation for Monument Protection in memory of its co-founder, the former Head of the Culture Department in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Sieghardt von Köckritz (* 1929, † 1996). Associated with the prize is an endowment of 25,000 euros (previously 50,000 DM); this sum is intended to benefit a listed property selected by the respective award winner.

The prize item was designed by the Lübeck silversmith studio Margarete and Werner Oehlschlaeger . It is a silver cylinder with different metal fittings, which show motifs of sacred and profane architecture from different centuries.
