Werner Picot
Werner Picot (born June 7, 1903 in Stuttgart , † October 19, 1992 in Baden-Baden ) was a German lawyer , diplomat and businessman .
Life
Picot was born in 1903 in Stuttgart as the son of the Imperial Court Councilor Karl Picot and his wife Lina Picot, née Breitling.
He first attended a grammar school in Stuttgart and passed his Abitur in 1922 at the humanistic St. Thomas School in Leipzig . From 1919 to 1920 he was time volunteer in a volunteer corps . From 1922 to 1926 he underwent commercial training in banking, industry and wholesale. From 1926 to 1930 he studied law , political science and economics at the University of Leipzig . In 1930 he passed his first law exam. He completed his legal clerkship in the Saxon judicial service. In 1934 he passed his second law exam.
From 1934 to 1935 Picot worked as a spy commissioner for the head of training at the SA . At the same time he was admitted to the Berlin Chamber of Commerce in 1934 . On March 1, 1931, he joined the NSDAP (membership number 475.135). From May 1, 1932 to June 1935, he was a member of the SA. He was accepted into the SS (membership number 258.279) on July 1, 1935. He was promoted to SS-Standartenführer on January 30, 1943 .
On June 25, 1935 Picot was appointed to the diplomatic service of the Foreign Office . He completed his diplomatic training in the Department of Economics (1935–1936), in the Kovno Legation (1936–1937), at the Vatican (1937–1939) and in the Department of Internal German Affairs (1939). From 1937 he was legation secretary . From 1939 to 1940 he did his military service. In 1940 he took over the deputy head of the department for connection to the offices of the Reichsführer SS and international police cooperation. Eventually he became head of the unit. In 1940 he was appointed Legation Councilor and in 1942 Legation Councilor 1st class. From 1942 he headed the Holy See Department . In 1943 he was drafted as a lieutenant in the reserve for military service in Army Group Center .
After the Second World War , Picot worked in the lubricating grease industry and in 1951 became managing director of the Association of the Lubricating Grease Industry in Hamburg. From 1958 to 1965 he was a member of the management board of Aral Italiana .
