Wes Farrell (born December 21, 1939 in New York City , † February 29, 1996 in Miami , Florida ) was an American musician , songwriter and record producer .

Life

Born in New York, Wes Farrell's career began in the late 1950s with his first successes as a songwriter, including his song Boys (1960) for the Shirelles , composed together with Luther Dixon and recorded by the Beatles in 1963 . In 1965 he wrote the million-dollar hit Hang On Sloopy with Bert Russell for the pop group The McCoys , which he also produced himself.

Farrell was particularly famous for his title song ( Come On, Get Happy ) and numerous other songs for the television series he co-produced The Partridge Family (1970–1974). In addition to the two "Partridge" actors David Cassidy and Shirley Jones , Farrell has worked with Neil Diamond , Barry Manilow , Wayne Newton , Timi Yuro and the pop group Elephant's Memory , among others . For the Scottish singer Lulu he produced the theme song The Man with the Golden Gun from the James Bond film of the same name . In 1975, Farrell co-produced James Last's only album entirely made in the United States , entitled " Well Kept Secret ".

In total, Farrell won more than 100 gold records .

As a music producer, Farrell worked in the 1960s and 1970s for the 1954 record label Bell Records ; after its sale to Screen Gems , he founded the label Chelsea Records . With his company "Coral Rock Commercials" he also produced the music for numerous television commercials. In 1992 he founded the music publishing company "Music Entertainment Group" (MEG), of which he remained managing director until his death.

Wes Farrell died on 29 February 1996 in Coconut Grove , a suburb of Miami , to cancer .

Farrell married Joan Arthurs in 1965; daughter Dawn comes from the divorced marriage in 1972. His 1974 marriage to Frank Sinatra's daughter Tina Sinatra remained childless and was divorced a few years later. From 1978 to 1981 Farrell was married to actress Pamela Hensley . His fourth marriage to real estate agent Jean Inman resulted in two sons, Wesley and Sky.
