Westerland Foehr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Westerland Föhr (also Westerlandföhr ; Fering Waasterlun Feer ) was part of the Westerharde in the west of the island of Föhr .

Westerland Föhr, to which the southern part of Nieblum , the villages of Goting , Borgsum , Witsum and the parish St. Laurentii in Süderende belonged, was together with Amrum part of the royal enclaves and the Kingdom of Denmark until 1864 , while the Harde Osterland Föhr with Wyk belonged to the Duchy of Schleswig . Three municipalities on Westerland Föhr, Goting, Utersum and Hedehusum , were the only municipalities in Zone II to vote in favor of a move to Denmark in the 1920 referendum . Because they were not directly on the later border, they stayed with Germany.

The Westerlandföhr Office was established in 1867 and existed until 1970.

On Westerland Föhr, most of the residents speak the Föhr dialect of the North Frisian language , Fering , while this proportion is much lower on Osterland Föhr.
