Team Western Sydney Wanderers Women is the women's football division of Western Sydney Wanderers FC and plays in the top Australian women's football league , the W-League . The association is based in Sydney , New South Wales and was founded in 2012.

history

2012 - year of foundation

In 2008, the Australian Football Federation (FFA) decided to found a new football club in the Sydney metropolitan area. This club should be set up as a local opponent to the already existing Sydney FC in the men's professional league, the A-League . Four years later the founding of the association was announced under the name Western Sydney Wanderers . The FFA remained the owner of the franchise . Shortly after the formation of the club and the formation of a men's professional team, the establishment of a women's professional team was announced. After the team of the Central Coast Mariners had to leave the W-League due to a lack of funds before the 2010/11 season and two seasons were played with only seven teams, the Western Sydney Wanderers Women were able to join the league as the eighth team for the 2012/13 season . The Australian Stephen Roche was hired as coach.

2012/13 - first season

The team finished its first season in sixth place in the league. Thus, the entry into the playoffs with the best four teams was not successful, but a positive response from the public in the region and a first fan base was achieved.

2013/14 - Second season

In the second season, coach Roche led the team to seventh place in the table.

2014 - third season

In July 2014, Norm Boardman took over the position of coach for the 2014 season. Despite a new coach, the team again performed poorly and was bottom of the table at the end of the season.
