The western clamp head , sometimes also the middle clamp head , is 3126  m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Schobergruppe on the border between East Tyrol and Carinthia .

location

The western Klammerkopf is located in the south-eastern center of the Schobergruppe on the border between the communities of Kals am Großglockner (East Tyrol) in the west, Heiligenblut am Großglockner in the north and Großkirchheim in the west (both Carinthia). The western bracket head is located between the southern bracket head ( 3117  m above sea level ) in the south, the high bracket head ( 3155  m above sea level ) in the west and the Gössnitz head ( 3096  m above sea level ) in the northeast, with the long ridge crossing to the Gössnitzkopf is marked by the Gössnitzscharte ( 2732  m above sea level ). In the north of the western Klammerkopf lies the Gössnitzkees along the north side of the Klammerköpfe up to the Großer Hornkopf , to the southeast the Klammerkees used to be located west of the ridge to the Keeskopf . The closest alpine bases are the Adolf-Noßberger-Hütte in the southeast, the Lienzer Hütte in the southwest and the Elberfelder Hütte in the north.

Promotion opportunities

The normal route on the little-used West Klammerkopf leads initially marked from the Adolf-Noßberger-Hütte to the southwest to the Niedere Gradenscharte. At an altitude of around 2900 meters you cross the eastern ridge to the former Klammerkees and then climb in a notch between the western and the Hohe Klammerkopf ( I ). From the Lienzer Hütte it is possible to climb over the barely used Weißenkarsattel ( 2972  m above sea level ) and then similarly over the former Klammerkees, another variant consists of climbing the west ridge from the Gössnitzscharte ( I-II ).
