Westport is a place in Grays Harbor County in the US state of Washington . At the time of the 2000 United States Census , Westport had 2,137 residents.

West Ports geographical coordinates are 46 ° 53 ' N , 124 ° 7' W . The area of the city is according to the data of the United States Census Bureau 11.0 km ²; 9.3 km² of this is land, 1.6 km² (or 14.86%) consists of water.
Westport is on a peninsula on the south side of the opening from Grays Harbor to the Pacific Ocean . Westport Public Marina is the largest marina on the western coast of the US states in the Pacific Northwest .
The marina is home to a commercial fishing fleet and several ships that fish on a tourist basis. A summer ferry connects the city with Ocean Shores on the north, opposite side of the sea opening.
history
Westport was granted town charter on June 26, 1914. Previous names for the settlement were Peterson's Point and Chehalis City . Before the city was founded, it existed under the name Ft. Chehalis opened a branch from 1860. The area was occupied during the summer by Native Americans who most likely came from the Shoalwater Bay area before Thomas Barker Speake and his family settled here in the early summer of 1857.
Demographics
The 2137 inhabitants living here were distributed over 983 households and 547 families according to the result of the 2000 census.
The population density was 229.2 inhabitants per km² and the density of the 1358 residential units results in an average of 145.6 / apartments per km². The races of residents are divided into 92.75% White , 0.33% African American , 3.09% Native American , 0.94% Asian , 0.05% Pacific Islander and 0.47% belonging to other races; 2.39% said they belonged to two or more races. 2.99% of the population described themselves as Hispanic or Latino of any breed.
Children under the age of 18 lived in 23.2% of households, married couples lived together in 42.9% and 8.7% of households consisted of women living alone without a man; 44.3% of households did not form families. 34.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family consisted of 2.79 people.
The age distribution of the population was as follows: 22.0% were under 18 years old, 6.7% between 18 and 24 years old, 24.8% between 25 and 44 years old, 27.3% between 45 and 64 and 19.1 % were 65 or more years old. The average age was 43 years, there were 98.1 men for every 100 women, and 91.9 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
