Location of Steinbach in Saarland

Steinbach is a district of Ottweiler in the Neunkirchen district in Saarland . Until 1973 Steinbach was an independent municipality under the official name Steinbach bei Ottweiler .

location

Steinbach is about 2 km east of Ottweiler. The place is surrounded by forests to the east and south and fields to the north and west. Most of the place was built on two hills, the main road is between these hills. In the south the place borders on the Ostertal . Wetschhausen, about 2 km to the north, has belonged to Steinbach since January 1st, 1959.

history

Steinbach had had a makeshift little stopping point north of the town since the 1930s , which connected Steinbach to Ottweiler and Schwarzerden via the Ostertalbahn . However, its building was completely destroyed in World War II. The breakpoint itself was abandoned in May 1960.

It was not until the 1950s that the streets in Steinbach were paved (the main road had of course been paved beforehand). Since then, NVG buses have been running in Steinbach (line 302/304, Ottweiler Bahnhof - Hanauer Mühle , from there you can take the bus to Neunkirchen ).

Between 2005 and 2009 defects in the church (Steinbach only has one Protestant church) were found: the bell tower was partially in danger of collapsing, the roof was leaky. However, these shortcomings have now been remedied.

A primary school once existed in Steinbach , but it was closed in 2005. Since then there has only been one kindergarten .

In 2001, work began on creating a new building area in the eastern part of the village, which extends from the cemetery (entrance to the village) to the adjacent forest on the opposite side of the village. The first houses were built in 2002/2003.

Steinbach has about 1300 inhabitants. The population is predominantly Protestant .

Steinbach has been a district of Ottweiler since January 1, 1974.

Sports

Steinbach has its own soccer club , TuS Steinbach and also its own soccer field . There is also a handball team.

  • Since Steinbach is higher than most of the other villages and towns in the area, the place is usually one of the first in Saarland to have snow in winter. It could also happen that pupils from the snow-covered Steinbach could no longer come to the secondary schools in Ottweiler, while there was no snow at all two kilometers further in Ottweiler.
  • The premium hiking trail "Steinbachpfad" has existed in Steinbach since 2009/2010 and leads past the Betzelhübel panorama tower, which was built in 2013 . The approx. 4 km long mountain bike route Flowtrail Ottweiler begins not far from the observation tower .
