history

In 1962, for example, Celtic cremation graves from the 1st century BC were found on the site of the cemetery . The location of the place near Rennstrasse , a Roman road that runs from Tholey in the direction of the Homburg district of Schwarzenacker , suggests that there was an earlier settlement. Mainzweiler belonged to Ottweiler in the county of Saarbrücken until 1794 and was French until 1814, like the rest of today's Saarland. In 1819 it formed together with the towns of Urexweiler , Remmesweiler and Marpingen the mayor's office of Urexweiler, which belonged to the Principality of Lichtenberg . In 1834 Mainzweiler came to the Prussian district of Sankt Wendel . Mainzweiler has been a district of Ottweiler since January 1st, 1974.

economy

The place is still strongly characterized by agriculture. About 80% of the area is used for agriculture. However, since only a few residents are employed in this branch, most of the residents commute to work in Ottweiler , Sankt Wendel and Neunkirchen (Saar) .
