Nowy Wiśnicz is a city in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 13,850 inhabitants.
Geographical location
Nowy Wiśnicz is about ten kilometers south of Bochnia , between Kraków and Tarnów .
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1238. 1616 was the village Rogozie at the request of Stanisław Lubomirski by Sigismund III. Wasa the city charter granted. The town's castle was built in the 14th century. In the 16th century the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. Further modifications took place in the following centuries. In 1772 during the 1st partition of Poland , the place fell to Austria . The painter Juliusz Kossak was born in 1824 . In 1831 the castle fell victim to a fire. The Carmelite Monastery was converted into a prison in the 18th century and still has this function today. In 1949 the castle was rebuilt. Today it is again owned by the Lubomirski family association .
