Widar Ziehnert

Ernst Widar Amadeus Ziehnert (born July 24, 1814 in Königsbrück , Kingdom of Saxony , † February 12, 1839 in Schlettau , Kingdom of Saxony) was a German poet and collector of sagas .

Life

Widar Ziehnert was a son of the rector and first hospital preacher in Königsbrück, Johann Gottlieb Ziehnert (1780–1856) and his wife Johanne Christiane geb. Bowl from Leipzig. Widar's father officiated as pastor from 1816 in Großenhain and from 1828 in Schlettau in the Ore Mountains. The young pastor's son enrolled at the University of Leipzig in 1832 to study Protestant theology. In 1836 he passed the exam in Leipzig. Along with Johann Georg Theodor Grasse and Karl Haupt, he was one of the first researchers to collect sagas from Saxony and write down what Alfred Meiche finally worked out scientifically. As a theology candidate, he died after weeks of illness at the age of 24 in Schlettau.
