The Vienna Veronica Chamaedrys ( Veronica vindobonensis ), also Wiener prize called, is a plant from the family of the way Erich plants (Plantaginaceae).

The leaf blade is almost triangular, the teeth are almost linear.
The sepals are densely covered with (glandular) hairs.

Vegetative characteristics

The Viennese Germander Speedwell grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of about 15 to 25 centimeters. The short rising stems are hairy in two rows ( indument ); between the lines of hair the stem is always completely bare.

The middle leaves are sessile and have a length of 11 to 22 millimeters and a width of 7 to 15 millimeters almost triangular blade, which is hairy on the top, at least near the edge. The leaf margin is incised-notched to pinnate and has six to eight straight and almost linear teeth.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence shafts are hairy evenly. A few flowers stand together in lateral racemose inflorescences . The hermaphroditic flowers have a double flower envelope . The sepals are densely covered with around 120 to 300 (glandular) hairs. The crown has a diameter of 9 to 12 millimeters. The four petals are light blue to pale blue and often have a whitish edge. Each flower has two stamens and three styles.

The capsule fruit is usually 3 to 3.5 millimeters long and 4 to 4.5 millimeters wide.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the Viennese Gamander Prize extends over Central , Southeastern and Eastern Europe . In Austria , the Viennese Gamander Honorary Prize occurs in the collines and sometimes up to the submontane altitude level in warm oak forests and their borders and on dry meadows. The Viennese gamander honorary award is common in the Pannonian region , otherwise rare. In the alpine region, the Bohemian Massif and the northern foothills of the Alps, the Viennese Gamander Prize is considered endangered.

Taxonomy

It was first described in 1970 as the subspecies Veronica chamaedrys subsp. vindobonensis by Manfred A. Fischer . Veronica vindobonensis (MAFisch.) MAFisch has the rank of a species . received it from Fischer in 1974.
