Wilfried Bolewski

Wilfried Bolewski (born March 18, 1943 in Berlin ) is a former German diplomat who was ambassador to Jamaica between 1993 and 1997 and deputy chief of protocol at the German Foreign Office from 2003 to 2006 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Bolewski began studying law at the Philipps University of Marburg , which he continued at the Free University of Berlin and the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer . In addition, he studied abroad at the University of Geneva , De Haagse Hogeschool and the University of Cambridge . After graduating from the First State Examination in 1967, he passed his Second State Examination in 1970. In 1971 he completed his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the Law and Political Science Faculty of the Philipps University of Marburg with the dissertation on the binding of German courts to the statements and measures of their government at the level of international law .

In 1971 Bolewski became legal advisor to the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN (Conseil européen pour la recherche nucléaire) in Geneva , where he also obtained a diploma from the Graduate Institute of International Studies at the University of Geneva in 1972. In 1972 he entered the higher foreign service and initially worked at the Consulate General in Milan and then from 1973 to 1977 at the embassy in the People's Republic of Poland . Then he was between 13 April 1977 and 1980 for the first time as consul at the Consulate General in Sydney and then at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn 2 A (Federal Government Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control) the Deputy Director General, Ambassador Friedrich Ruth worked , before he was employed again as deputy consul general at the consulate general in Sydney from 1983 to 1986. In 1993 Bolewski replaced Nils Grueber as ambassador to Jamaica and remained in this post until 1997, when Adolf Ederer succeeded him. As such, he was also ambassador to the Bahamas and Belize accredited . He also served as Consul General for the Cayman Islands and for the Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as permanent representative to the Kingston- based International Seabed Authority . After completing these functions, he became permanent representative of the ambassador to Pakistan in 1997 and, as such, was also responsible for the embassy in Afghanistan , which was not occupied until 2001 . Most recently, from 2003 to 2006, he was Deputy Head of Protocol in the German Foreign Office and thus Deputy Head of the Protocol Department , Bernhard von der Planitz . In 2008 he became an honorary professor for international law and diplomacy at the Free University of Berlin.
