Wilhelm Kähler , also Wilhelm Kaehler (born February 5, 1871 in Halle ; † February 14, 1934 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer , economist , university professor and politician ( DNVP ).

Life and work

Wilhelm Kähler was born on February 5, 1871 in Halle / Saale as the son of the theologian Martin Kähler . After attending school, he studied law and political science at the universities in Halle and Berlin from 1888 to 1892 . In Halle he became a member of the SBV Tuiskonia in the Schwarzburgbund in 1888 . He received his PhD in 1893 at the University of Halle for Dr. jur. , in 1896 as Dr. phil. and then worked as a trainee lawyer. After his habilitation in 1897 he was appointed full professor of economics at the Technical University of Aachen in 1900. At the same time he worked from 1908 as a teacher at the local commercial college. From 1914 he was professor of economics at the University of Greifswald , whose rector he later became.

Kähler was a member of the Prussian constitutional assembly from 1919 to 1921 and was then elected to the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged until 1928.

Public offices

After the “ Prussian Strike ” in July 1932, Franz von Papen first appointed the center politician Aloys Lammers as Reich Commissioner . Kähler took over his function on October 29, 1932, which entrusted him with the management of the Prussian Ministry of Culture . On February 4, 1933, the National Socialist Bernhard Rust was appointed as his successor in office.
